You guys! First of all, thank you so much for aaaaaaaall your apps and chats and SMS´s and DM´s today. I truly felt supported going into this day of The Second Opinion. Funny thing is that I haven´t felt nervous one little bit, even though people kept telling me how nervous they were. And then all of a sudden it was 14.45.
14.46.
14.47.
14.48 it was when the Professor logged on. A very very nice man (professor doctor mind you...). As we only had 10 minutes according to the confirmation I felt the urge to speak quickly but he reassured me immediately that we had way more time. In the end we spoke for over 20 minutes.
So, what did he say?
I love this man because he does not think or speak oncological. Oncological for me means that he speaks and thinks in limitations and what isn´t possible. He repeatedly mentioned that the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek is very strong in their belief to work from what is possible, look forward, see possibilities. So off to a good start.
- The current treatment is the treatment he would´ve chosen too,
- For when the current treatment has run it´s course, he suggested a new type of chemo,
- He also suggested to have a new liver biopsy taken and look for 2 specific values. One of them indicates whether or not my type of cancer is susceptible to immunotherapy. Apparently in only 5-10% of the breast cancer patients this therapy gives benefits,
- He will summarize all we talked about in a nice letter to my Norwegian oncologist and they will keep in touch with regards to my treatment,
- As soon as there are significant changes, I should feel free to get in touch with him to start talking about taking part in investigative study treatments.
So that is about it.
All in all, I feel very positive about this. It was worth getting all the medical documents translated. I now feel like I have another expert (who think more along the positive lines I like to think along) in Team JJ.
Thanks so much you guys for all your support, I am still kinda taking it all in. I am happy and positive.
