When social security is overtaken by anxiety to think outside the box

I am a very lucky woman to be living in a country with such an amazing social security system. We might pay a lot of taxes, but the social security in Norway is pretty amazing.

I did kind of bump in to this very illogical thing though.

What would you say:
- if one is sick, but wants to and can work although not fulltime, would you reckon that would be supported by the social security system?
- if one wants to come back to work, can work although not fulltime, would you as social security instance not go out of your way to support that person as to make sure that this person actually can come back to work as soon as?

It probably won´t come as a surprise that I am talking about my own situation here. In November of this year, I will have been on 100% sick leave for one year. The Norwegian social security system has done a good job of covering that. Now that the year is almost up, something needs to give.

I would love to come back to work for at least 10 maybe even 20%. The most ideal place to come back to work is of course at my dream job at 50 Degrees. Seen as the current situation in the tourism industry is far from ideal, I totally understand that it is a financial challenge to have me back at work without any backing from the social security system.

I had done some digging and some asking around. Plenty of friends assured me that it should be possible for me to get back to work for a %-age, with the Norwegian social security system (NAV) pitching in to make sure that I would be well on my way back to being more and more at work.

Not according to my ´veiledere´ at NAV. The only option, literally the only option for me now is to apply for pay for those that are incapacitated to work! Even though I am not!? Sure, I have to go to the hospital for treatments and I am a bit woozy afterwards, but I can work. It is almost as if the good people at NAV do not want to hear that. Nope, Arbeidsavklaringspenger it is. Nothing else. And should I be completely recovered again (plus the situation in the tourism industry), then I can just stop the Arbeidsavklaringspenger and continue in a regular job. In the meantime, I should just hold up my hand and take the money that NAV pays out to me every month.

I know, it might sound really ungrateful that I am complaining that I am getting money without having to do anything for it. But that is just the thing: I WANT TO WORK!
